Friends,

Apple, a name to reckon with in the mobile and laptop segment is now coming up with yet another 1st in its profile. It is designing an electric car that's at present being code-named at "Titan". Looks sweet!

the Wall Street Journal reported Feb. 13 that the Cupertino, Calif.-based company has dedicated several hundred employees to creating an Apple-branded electric vehicle. The project is supposedly codenamed “Titan.”

Old school boxy look is sweet.
What I doubt is, this car may require
- iCharge Station : dedicated charging station (Titan may not be compatible with other charging stations and vice versa)
- iGarage : Can only be parked here
- iAir : Fill only this air in tires
- iCurrent : [surprise]
- iDriver : Only he can drive (may be iPassenger as well)
Jokes apart, it is really welcome & challenging move by Apple entering into Automotive market. [clap]

+1 Satish, It shall require dedicated infrastructure but in my opinion Apple before rolling out such vehicle should also review models like Tesla and the Indian one's like Reva so that if they are seriously aiming to compete in electric car market, then their product too can have some substance as well.

Apple had kept the 'Project Titan' under wraps till date though they were busy hiring techies from Tesla and started the work with BMW i3 as a basis of design as per media reports. Many speculated design images were spread over internet including the above one shared by Akash (Also includes the images of a media van used for capturing images for iOS map upgrades mistaken as iCar test mule) and it was said that Apple is using a World war II naval base as the secret testing facility. As per media now Apple is close to officially unveiling the autonomous vehicle project as they had discussions with California's Department of motor vehicles about safety criteria, regulations for the deployment and public operation. Similar efforts from Google and uber are in much advanced stages of development but it may take a long wait to see the iCar on roads for transport.

If this is the car apple is launching. Then it would be better if they stick to developing and manufacturing phones.

Most outdated design. Look at Telsa such wonderful designs. surely the apple brand may work but rear opening out like a drawer such a useless design.

No. No images of the iCar firstlook is officially released. These are all the so called "leaked" images of the same. Most probably these are made by enthusiasts, utilizing their creativity and imagination to the best. Below given is the latest "leaked" design doing the rounds.

Apple is no longer making a car of its own, and will instead focus on providing autonomous technology.

Apple Inc. has drastically scaled back its automotive ambitions, leading to hundreds of job cuts and a new direction that, for now, no longer includes building its own car.
Hundreds of members of the car team, which comprises about 1,000 people, have been reassigned, let go, or have left of their own volition in recent months.

New leadership of the initiative, known internally as Project Titan, has re-focused on developing an autonomous driving system that gives Apple flexibility to either partner with existing carmakers, or return to designing its own vehicle in the future

Apple isn’t the first to realize mastery of mobile gadgets and software updates is no guarantee of automotive success. Alphabet Inc.’s Google learned the challenges of building its own vehicles and has sought partners. Its car project has also suffered departures. Tech investors are dubious too. They’re used to fat profit margins, while carmakers survive on net margins well below 10 percent
