Mercedes-Benz might be in the works to roll out a Maybach-branded SUV. This SUV will look to cash in on the interest in the upmarket sub-brand.

The Maybach brand came to an end in 2013, however, the badge will now find its place in international markets in 2015, on the Mercedes-Maybach S-class. It has been confirmed that the Maybach badge will be used for highly exclusive models, just like AMG is used on performance cars.

“The theory is that we will do more Maybach models,” admitted Martin Hulder, project manager for the S-class. “But it will not be for all vehicles; any Maybach must make sense, because it is not just about putting an emblem on a car. Buyers rightly have high expectations of a Maybach, and we must be sure to always deliver on them,” he added.

After the Mercedes-Maybach S-class, the Mercedes GLS SUV is the one most likely to get the Maybach name. If launched, the Mercedes-Maybach SUV would compete in the super-luxury segment, which will have cars like the upcoming Bentley Bentayga and the much-awaited Rolls-Royce SUV.

Mercedes-Benz To Rival Bentley Bentayga

Buddies,

It has been reported that luxury brand Mercedes Benz is eyeing to rival the recently unveiled Bentley Bentayga with an ultra-luxury SUV. This ultra-luxury SUV is going to sold under Maybach branding and shall feature the comfort and grace of the Maybach brand. No date though has been slated for this upcoming product but officials in Mercedes Benz are really thinking aggressively on this front.

Demand appears to be growing for ultraluxury SUV and crossover type vehicles, said Andreas Zygan, Mercedes director of development for SUVs. He noted the entry of other high-end brands such as Bentley, which showed the Bentayga crossover at the auto show here.

"We are looking at everything that is going on with that segment," Zygan said. He declined to say how soon Mercedes will make a decision.

Steve Cannon, the brand's U.S. sales boss, called a handcrafted ultraluxury SUV-style vehicle a "natural fit."
