The Santa Cruz is a crossover truck, targeted at the 'Crossover Utility Vehicles' (CUVs) segment.

Hyundai has unveiled a crossover truck called the Santa Cruz at the ongoing Detroit motor show 2015. The Santa Cruz concept gives us a peek at a potential production model that could cash in on the 'Crossover Utility Vehicles' (CUVs) segment.

Hyundai Motor America chief executive Dave Zuchowski said, “We must secure a greater share for our existing crossover products and develop new products for emerging truck markets”. Hyundai intends the five-seat Santa Cruz to appeal to 'millennialists'. Mark Dipko, director of corporate planning said, “They are the second-biggest group of car buyers. They live in (urban) areas but don't have space for a traditional pick-up. They have tighter parking on streets and generally more congestion. We call these buyers 'urban adventurers' and this car satisfies their need for urban expression”.

The Santa Cruz is powered by a 190bhp 2.0-litre turbo diesel motor with an all-wheel-drive system.

For ease of access to the rear seats, the concept features suicide rear doors. The wheel arches, roof, and bed rails offer tie-down cleats for securing cargo. The cargo bed can expand or be reconfigured to accommodate longer cargo. An integrated, rigid tonneau cover that retracts when not-needed can be used to securely stow items in the rear bed area.

Hi Hari, I guess, when it may come to India, its competitor shall be the TATA Xenon or will it be eyeing Commercial Pick Up segment? The rear lamps look inspired from Elite i20.

As Hyundai is considering this as a lifestyle pick up more than a commercial pick up and aiming high class customers,no chances of eyeing commercial segment by hyundai,IMHO.As of now,our indian market is not at all grown for a life style pick up segment. With the launch of dual cab Isuzu DMAX ,i think this segment will get active.

IMO,If i'm right Hyundai will position it as a more premium vehicle than Tata xenon. So xenon will not be a competitor for hyundai when it comes to India.

2021 Hyundai Santa Cruz Spied Testing In South Korea

Hyundai first unveiled the Santa Cruz pickup truck concept to the world almost five years ago, at the 2015 North American Auto Show. However, the Korean carmaker only recently confirmed that the pickup truck will go into production, and will be launched in 2021. Earlier this month, we reported the spotting of a heavily camouflaged test mule of the upcoming Santa Cruz pickup truck in a parking lot. Now, the pickup truck has been spied again, being testing in the manufacturer’s home country. The latest spy shots reveal some new details about the upcoming truck.

The heavily camouflaged test mule sports a four-door crew cab configuration, rather than the extended cab configuration of the concept showcased in 2015. As compared to the previously spied test mule which came equipped with black alloy wheels, the recently spied car sports a different set of dual-tone diamond-cut units.

It is yet to be seen if the Santa Cruz truck is offered with the Santa Fe’s 2.4-litre four-cylinder petrol engine that produces 188 PS of maximum power and 241 Nm of max torque, along with its 2.0-litre four-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine which puts out 238 PS power and 352 Nm torque.
