Suzuki has launched a diesel variant of the Grand Vitara in UK. The compact SUV now gets a 1.9 litre DDiS engine producing 93.7bhp and a max torque of 30.6 kgm @ 2000 rpm.
The diesel variant is available with two trim levels, SZ4 and SZ5. They feature 18-inch alloy wheels, front fog lamps, in-dash 6CD changer with MP3 compatibility and 7 speakers, steering wheel mounted audio controls, heated leather seats and automatic climate controls for the AC.
Suzuki has also worked on reducing the NVH levels by implementing new improved sound insulators to reduce overall noise at all speeds. CO2 emissions have also gone down further by 4%.
Safety features include airbags for the driver and front passenger combined with side and curtain airbags. ABS
now come as standard.
In India, the Grand Vitara comes with a 2.4 litre petrol engine which is a good value for money considering the equipment levels it comes with. Still it fares only second to the mighty CR-V. The latest 1.9 litre DDiS diesel engine can change the fortunes for Maruti as it would have an upper hand over the CR-V which lacks a diesel option. If we do get a diesel variant for our market, the key would be to price the Grand Vitara reasonably.
