Nissan is working on a car that would save its owners from the hassle of cleaning it now and then. U.K engineers are testing on a nanotechnology based ‘super-hydrophobic’ and ‘oleophobic’ paintwork (trademarked as Ultra-Ever Dry) that would repel dirt before it holds on to the paintwork. The company states that there is no immediate plan to introduce this innovation into production models. However, it might soon be available as an aftermarket option which costs approx $750 (Rs.46,000).

The Nissan Note is first car to trial paint which could make car washes obsolete. Washing a car can be a chore - and a costly one at that. In response, Nissan has begun tests on innovative paint technology that repels mud, rain and everyday dirt, meaning drivers may never have to clean their car again. By creating a protective layer of air between the paint and environment, it effectively stops standing water and road spray from creating dirty marks on the car's surface. So far, the coating has responded well to common use cases including rain, spray, frost, sleet and standing water.
