Nissan is working on a car that would save its owners from the hassle of cleaning it now and then. U.K engineers are testing on a nanotechnology based ‘super-hydrophobic’ and ‘oleophobic’ paintwork (trademarked as Ultra-Ever Dry) that would repel dirt before it holds on to the paintwork. The company states that there is no immediate plan to introduce this innovation into production models. However, it might soon be available as an aftermarket option which costs approx $750 (Rs.46,000).

Quote from Nissan's official:
The Nissan Note is first car to trial paint which could make car washes obsolete. Washing a car can be a chore - and a costly one at that. In response, Nissan has begun tests on innovative paint technology that repels mud, rain and everyday dirt, meaning drivers may never have to clean their car again. By creating a protective layer of air between the paint and environment, it effectively stops standing water and road spray from creating dirty marks on the car's surface. So far, the coating has responded well to common use cases including rain, spray, frost, sleet and standing water.

Imagine if roads had nanotechnology surface, and car paints had them on too, and every other thing around us, how clean and neat would it look. [lol]

But where does all the dirt and liquid go and settle then? Water bodies? [thinking] ?
Disastrous it would be.

Wow this car would lead to lots of un-employment here in India.[;)] Terrific ideology from Nissan. Let's see when this technology actually comes into production models. Though agree dust is the major irritant here in our Indian climate and it would be hard to tackle that. If only they had thought of attaching a vacuum cleaner somewhere too.[embarass] But anyway very creative thinking from Nissan.[thumbsup]
