Land Rover today showed off the Land Rover Discovery Vision concept at the ongoing New York Auto Show.

The concept shows the future direction for all Discovery models, the first of which is due in 2015. The theme for the concept, says JLR, is versatility. The car carries design elements like a stepped roof and alpine lights. Seats can be folded flat or slid backward and forward, via a touchscreen menu on the centre console, to give out a six-seater, five-seater or a four-seater ‘Limousine’ mode, apart from the standard seven-seater configuration.

Technologically speaking, the concept sports various features like video calls between passengers through seatback infotainment units and importantly, doors, indicators, headlamps and seatback screens can be operated via gesture controls. Remote Control Drive allows the driver to drive the car, at very low speeds says JLR, while seated outside the car. The day-like laser headlamps feature intelligent object tracking and beam-dipping capabilities.

Land Rover’s next-generation Terrain Response system makes its debut in the concept, along with a Transparent Bonnet head-up display system, laser terrain scanning, wade aid sensory system and all-terrain progress control system.

The concept measures 4,950 mm in length, 2,006 mm in width, 1,858 mm in height and gets a wheelbase of 2,922 mm.

Land Rover Discovery Sport coming to India in late 2015

The Discovery Sport will replace the ageing Freelander globally and is poised to be the least expensive Land Rover when it goes on sale, even undercutting the standard LR4 Discovery.

To be manufactured at Land Rover’s Halewood, UK, facility, the new Discovery Sport will be offered with both petrol and diesel four-cylinder engine options. While the proven Ford EcoBoost-sourced 2.0 litre, turbocharged petrol engine will put out a maximum power of 250PS, it is still unclear which diesel unit will be under the Discovery Sport’s hood. We assume it will be Land Rover’s current 2.2 litre engine, also turbocharged, and good for 180PS of peak power.

The engines will be mated to either Land Rover’s new 9-speed automatic or 6-speed manual gearbox, with all-wheel drive as standard.

Land Rover new Discovery sport - Petrol version will be powered by Ford ecoboost 2.0 litre engine. Then why the hell one should spend one crore for engine which is available at 10 lakh rupee price, just for the other features of the car?? Atleast they could have sourced better & bigger Safari petrol engine.

2015 Land Rover Discovery Sport’s CKD Kits Imported In India

Land Rover has imported two units of the new generation Land Rover Discovery Sport in India via the CKD route and the vehicle will be replacing the Freelander 2 later this year.

After unveiling it at the Paris Motor Show in October last year, Land Rover is gearing up to launch the new generation 2015 Discovery Sport in the country later this year and has imported two Completely Knocked Down (CKD) kits of the luxury SUV for R&D purposes. Replacing the Freelander 2 in its global lineup, the Discovery Sport will be the most affordable Land Rover to be sold in India to come from the British automaker.
The 2015 Land Rover Discovery Sport packs in a host of upgrades including a completely new design language and has also lost weight courtesy of the extensive use of aluminium in its construction. The SUV has also grown in dimensions over the outgoing version but gets a more compact look, while the wheelbase has been extended to improve cabin space. Land Rover also claims that the Discovery Sport will restart despite the cabin being soaked in water for 30 minutes.
In terms of features, the 2015 Discovery Sport will come equipped with an 8-inch infotainment system with integrated voice-controlled satellite navigation, Wi-Fi hotspot connectivity and an all-terrain mode as standard. The SUV continues to retain the 5+2 seating layout and also gets the rear seat reclining feature to enhance legroom.

looks great.
the rear opening 2nd row door is a nice comeback. I wish it was more common on everyday cars. why aren't regular cars provided with such arrangement?

else, the 9 speed gearbox is simply mouth watering. I wish safari gets more genes from these cousins. give atleast 6 speed with 150 bhp engine. come on tata!

Well Discovery sport will be competing with X3, Q5 and volvoc60 so pricing it higher than these cars would be detrimental to JLR. I expect the pricing to be between 50-60 L . Which will be great pricing for such a magnificient vehicle.

There are other things other than engine, like Brand value, features and the vehicle itself which will contribute in purchase behaviours.
