Land Rover has just revealed its Discovery Vision Concept SUV in New York. It is a vision of Land Rover’s future family of Discovery vehicles, the first model of which is due in 2015. This is the design language for the Discovery range of models that will be seen in the near future.
The Vision Concept highlights some of the design elements and equipment that will feature in the upcoming Discovery range.
The Discovery badge will now be used on a range of vehicles.
The Discovery SUV Vision Concept gets its public debut at the New York Show.
A single rear tailgate is fitted instead of the split tailgate found on the Discovery 4.
The styling on the Vision Concept shares much with the new Range Rover and Range Rover Sport, instead of the Discovery 4.
The Vision Concept offers seating for seven people.
There are no indicator or light stalks. The turn signals and lighting functions are operated by gesture control.
Each row of seats is progressively elevated in order to improve occupants' visibility.
Smart Glass is used for panoramic roof. Swiping or gesturing at the glass allows more or less light to enter the cabin.
Four of the five rear passengers get a 10-inch touchscreen tablet.
The first production model in the new family to bear Discovery name will be a replacement for the Freelander.
The new Discovery-badged Freelander replacement will be based on the Evoque platform
Other models set to join the new family include a rugged off-roader and a seven-seat Freelander.
The concept's styling features Discovery hallmarks, including the stepped roof.
The vision concept closely previews a plusher direct replacement for the current Discovery.
New tech includes the ability to drive the car remotely at low speeds.
Land Rover says the Vision Concept can seat seven comfortably.
