Japanese car giants Mitsubishi are planning on showcasing three new SUV concept cars at this years event.
1. GC-PHEV: An SUV which could be the replacement for the Shogun, the GC-PHEV will feature a hybrid powertrain. This will make it extremely fuel efficient for a car it’s size. With a boldly styled grille and thin headlights shown in the preview sketches, this car looks very futuristic. As far as features go, this car is likely to be very heavy on technology, with a high level of smartphone integration being rumoured.
2. XR-PHEV: A crossover SUV, as designated by the ‘XR’ tag, this model rumoured to be from the same mould as cars such as the BMW X5 and the Nissan Juke. Mitsubishi hasn’t yet targeted this market, so it could be put into production dependant on reactions from the crowd at the show.
Also powered by the PHEV powertrain, this car should also boast impressive MPG stats.
3: AR: AR stands for Active Runabout. That gives some idea to the kind of car this is set to be. A city car designed for ease of use, Mitsubishi have dropped some hints that this car may have adaptive seating. The only concept not to use the PHEV powertrain, this car will have an efficient turbo petrol engine.
Nissan is set to unveil a concept car for their replacement of the hugely popular 370z. This replacement is set to be smaller and lighter than the current models, but retain all of the power that they are famous for.
With the cars current list of competitors, Nissan are aware that performance will be the area where the battle is won or lost. Baring this in mind there has already been a high end Nismo version confirmed.
