The commencement of production and hence the market launch of the 2014 Jeep Cherokee is witnessing a slight delay in the US.

In the interim, the mid size SUV has been spotted testing in France. The spyshots are courtesy of Michel, a reader of Autoplus.fr.

We are not sure what’s lurking under the hood of this Jeep Cherokee test mule, but it is to be noted that Jeep has previously hinted at a possible adoption of Fiat’s 2.0 litre MultiJet diesel engine for the European markets. So we suspect that Jeep could be testing the diesel powertrain of the car on this occasion.

The 2.0 litre MultiJet diesel which is used in Fiat Freemont is available in two states of tune – 138 bhp and 168 bhp. Unlike the US, diesel SUVs are preferred in the old continent and its imperative for Cherokee to offer a diesel option to realize its global ambitions.

The Jeep Cherokee’s petrol options include a 2.4 litre TigerShark four cylinder engine and a 3.2 litre PentaStar V6 engine. The former makes 184bhp while the latter belts out 271 bhp. A new 9-speed transmission would make its debut in the Cherokee.

Chrysler says that in spite of the initial delay there would be enough inventory for the US dealers by the end of September. We could expect the car to travel east by the end of the year.

In India, Jeep will concentrate on the Grand Cherokee and the Wrangler initially but one cannot rule out the prospects of a diesel powered Cherokee. Perhaps it could come at a later stage.

Rendering – 2014 Jeep Cherokee SRT

A SRT (Street and Racing Technology) version of any of the Chrysler group products are as exciting as American performance cars can get! If AMG is for Mercedes, SRT is for brands under Chrysler umbrella.

Are you one of those who worship the cult of the Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT’s pure badness? Then we have good news for you!

The Jeep Cherokee SRT based on the new generation Cherokee unveiled at the New York Auto Show is coming. They have even rendered the Cherokee SRT and by the looks of it, the car has a sportier appeal than the regular Cherokee which doesn’t cater to everyone’s taste.

The Cherokee SRT is expected to be powered by a pumped up version of one of the regular engines with the 3.2 litre Pentastar V6 being the most viable candidate. The engine produces 271hp in its regular state of tune and could gather another 100 odd horses with a single stage turbocharger.

If that doesn’t do justice to the SRT badge, Jeep could strap another turbo onto the engine thereby squeezing a little over 400hp.

The transmission will be the new 9-speed automatic that will debut in the regular variants of the 2014 Cherokee. The SRT variant is likely to come with all wheel drive system as standard since a powerful front wheel driven SUV isn’t all that dynamic.

Regular variants of the Jeep Cherokee will be launched in the US shortly while SRT versions would come at a later stage.

Report – 2014 Jeep Cherokee delayed, again; 9-speed auto transmission to blame

The 2014 Jeep Cherokee was unveiled at the 2013 New York Auto Show in March this year. The Cherokee is a replacement for the Jeep Liberty and the company had estimated the first batch of deliveries to commence by August-September this year.

The production of the Cherokee had been delayed by a month. The company did not give a reason for the delay and instead said that “a wide range of issues” kept them from production. Now we understand that the delay is going to be extended further due to an issue with the 9-speed automatic transmission.

The Cherokee would be one of the world’s first cars to feature this 9-speed auto box (deliveries of the Merc E Class with 9-speed haven’t commenced yet). It is believed that the engineers are unable to get the ZF developed gearbox to use all 9 gears properly. Jalopnik reports that the company has cancelled a media event which was earlier scheduled for sometime next week in Seattle. Jalopnik’s sources say that the Cherokee with the 2.4-liter Tigershark engine has trouble engaging the 8th and 9th gear properly.

The company has cited the following for the reason in the delay -
Over the last couple of weeks during final quality and durability testing, we have discovered the opportunity to further improve powertrain calibration.
It is believed that a software program can fix the issue and that there is no mechanical problem as such. Jeep would also fix this issue on the Cherokees that have already been made.

Korea – 2014 Jeep Cherokee spotted testing

2014 Jeep Cherokee face delay due to a possible glitch in the new 9-speed automatic transmission, the SUV has started its testing program in South Korea suggesting that the country could be one of its first international markets.

Jeep’s Korean lineup at the moment is comprised of the Wrangler, Grand Cherokee and Compass models.

The new Cherokee made its global debut at the New York Auto Show earlier this year. The car was originally slated to reach American showrooms by August but the automaker had announced that the deliveries would be delayed by a month due to various pre-launch issues.

Recently, Jeep was more specific in explaining the reason for the postponement. The new 9-speed gearbox of the Cherokee which is the earliest of its kind, was posing problems.

In June, Jeep started producing the Cherokee at its Toledo plant in the US. However the inventory will not leave yards until the transmission issue is solved.

The powertrain options are a 2.4 litre Tigershark petrol engine that churns out 184bhp and a 3.2 Pentastar V6 petrol motor that develops a higher 271bhp.

It’s said that the transmission issue could be solved by a mere software revision. Hopefully, Jeep would program out the bugs and commence deliveries before the end of this year.

Jeep will start its Indian innings during Diwali 2013 with the Grand Cherokee and the Wrangler. If things head in the right direction, the Cherokee could join this lineup at a later stage.

Re: Jeep unveils pre-launch website

Jeep unveils pre-launch website for India.
Jeep has unveiled its pre-launch website for India. The brand will be officially launched in the country in February 2016.
The website gives us a glimpse of the Grand Cherokee, Grand Cherokee SRT and Wrangler Unlimited models. The company is planning to showcase its entire model line-up for India at the Delhi Auto Expo in February 2016.

Potential customers can also engage with the brand on other digital platforms such as Facebook, Instagram and Twitter to learn more about the different models.
Initially, Jeep is expected to bring its models into India through the CBU route. The company could start local assembly of its vehicles later. In July this year, Fiat Chrysler Automobiles (FCA) announced its plans to invest $280 million to expand its manufacturing facility in Ranjangaon, near Pune for the assembly of Jeep models. The plant is expected to start rolling out Jeep vehicles in 2017.
FCA is also likely to use a separate dealership network to sell Jeep vehicles.

Jeep will force Mahindra to change their designs but even though when the designs change, when it comes to pricing strategy the range between the two companies is faaaaaaar.

I don't think the Mahindra will get affected because when the Jeep prices its products competitively in the Indian Market the main rival would be the Land rover. So its upto the Land rover which would make their products less pricier and change the design accordingly to the Jeep Products. So we can see that there will be more demand for Land rover's than the Jeep when the prices of land rover are down massively.
