Familiar looks, but all-new chassis, higher-quality interior and lighter body for new luxury saloon ahead of Detroit motor show debut.

This is the new Maserati Quattroporte, the first and the flagship of a trio of new models that will kick-start the firm’s plans to boost its annual sales to around 50,000 units by 2015, a more than eight-fold increase on its 2011 performance of 6200 units.

The new sixth-generation Quattroporte will be revealed at the Detroit motor show in January and will be followed by a smaller BMW 5-series-rivalling saloon called Ghibli later in the year. A new SUV called Levante will crown the new expanded Maserati line-up, which will include diesel engines for the first time, in early 2014, the year of Maserati’s centenary.

Maserati is not divulging any official details on the new Quattroporte ahead of its Detroit unveiling, but Autocar understands the latest model is longer but lighter than the current four-door saloon.

The next-gen Quattroporte is believed to be based on a new steel monocoque chassis. The new underpinnings mean it should grow to around 5200mm in length, up from around 5052mm compared to today’s car. Much of the increase is understood to have been in the wheelbase, to legroom for rear passengers, something that’s crucial if Maserati is to make the impression it seeks on the Chinese market.

Much of the bodywork for the new Quattroporte is believed to have been crafted from aluminium, meaning the kerb weight of 1990kg of the current car will be reduced by around 50kg to 1940kg in spite of the increase in size.

The launch engine will be a Ferrari-built V8, believed to be a new version of the 453bhp 4.7-litre V8 used in the Granturismo sports car. The new unit is expected to get more power, but also improved fuel economy and lower CO2 emissions. It will be mated to a ZF-supplied XF automatic gearbox.

An expanded range of efficient turbocharged and supercharged engines are also under consideration, including a smaller capacity V8 and V6 petrol and diesel engines, although the V6 units are expected to ultimately be reserved for the smaller Ghibli saloon and the Levante SUV.

One first for the Quattroporte will be a four-wheel drive option around a year after launch of the standard rear-drive car.

The new model has been designed at a special Maserati-only department within the Fiat Group Centro Stile design centre, under the guidance of legendary Pininfarina designer Lorenzo Ramaciotti.

The look is evolved from the current car – the front grille, three side vents and distinctive triangular C-pillars all remain – but new features are added to give the car a more muscular stance, including a rising beltline running the length of the car.

The interior has undergone an overhaul from the current model, the result being a much more luxurious look and feel. High-quality woods and leathers are used throughout, and much of the major controls are operated by a large central touchscreen mounted on the centre console.

The new Quattroporte will be built at the old Pininfarina plant at Grugliasco, on the outskirts of Turin. The plant has been gutted and refurbished over several years; all but the walls are new. The new Ghibli will also be built at the plant and both models will be exported around the world, including North America.

Prices will start at around £80,000 for the base Quattroporte, rising to beyond £120,000 at the top-end for super-luxury versions.

Looks sexy. Good to take her out during some date !!
Any details when Maserati increasing dealer network ? They have in Mumbai AFAIK, & to be followed in Delhi. The Asia Pacific MD had said that there will be more dealers in India by 2015, lets wait.

And I am still awaiting dealer for Porsche in Pune. Why is it taking them so long ? [frustration]

2014 Maserati Quattroporte to Start at €110,000

The new Maserati Quattroporte will be officially unveiled at the Detroit Auto Show in January, and while the Italians did reveal these stunning photos, little else has been made officially known.

However, recent speculations about the car appears to be true, and the model which they are pinning their revival on will indeed be powered by a turbocharged V6 producing 410 PS, like the rumors stated. Auto Motor und Sport states that the “netto” price for the Quattroporte before taxes are added will be €93,000. In Germany, that would translate into a base price of €110,000 including their 19% tax, though this differs from country to country. Speculating what it will cost in the US is pretty much useless, but it would be safe to say that over just over $100,000 would be a decent ballpark figure.

The publication rightfully points out that some quite interesting rivals are cheaper, like the 420PS Audi S7, the 400 PS Porsche Panamera S and the Mercedes CLS 500. The CLS 63 AMG is only slightly more expensive. Let’s hope the Quattroporte is amazingly well equipped.

For the more powerful 530 PS V8 engine, the Germans should pay something like €146,000 including tax.

New Maserati Quattroporte Specs Revealed, gets Chrysler-Sourced 3.0L V6 and New 3.8L V8 Turbos

The savvy press people at Maserati have lifted an embargo on the information sheet of the company's new flagship sedan model, the 2013 Quattroporte. While the Italians have yet to share details on their website, they did with some select magazines including Motor Trend that has the skinny on the luxury model that will be making its first public outing at next month's 2012 NAIAS in Detroit.
We'll begin with the powertrain options for the 2013 Quattroporte that include two brand new turbocharged engines.

The entry-level powerplant is a 3.0-liter twin-turbocharged, direct-injection V6 that is said to be based on the block of Chrysler's Pentastar V6. It produces 404-horses at 5,500 rpm and a peak torque of 406 lb-ft (550Nm) at 1,750 rpm allowing the Quattroporte to reach 60mph (96km/h) in an estimated time of 5.1 seconds and top out at 177mph (285km/h).

The same V6 will likely be used on Maserati's upcoming, smaller Ghibli sedan.

At the top of the range, for now at least, is an all-new 3.8-liter twin-turbocharged V8 with direct-injection tech delivering 523-horses at 6,500 rpm and 479 lb-ft (649 Nm) or 524 lb-ft (710Nm) with overboost at 2,000 rpm. With this powerplant, the new Quattroporte hits 60mph (96km/h) in 4.7 seconds and reaches a top speed of 191mph (307km/h).

According to the magazine, both engines will be built in Maranello by Ferrari, and will be offered exclusively with an 8-speed automatic transmission that's lighter than the previous 6-speed unit.

The V8 model will be offered only with rear-wheel drive, while in a first for Maserati, the V6 version can be optionally fitted with an all-wheel drive system that under normal driving and road conditions, transfers 100 percent of torque to the rear wheels, but can split as much as 50 percent to the front axle.

We also learn that the new Quattroporte measures 207.2 inches (5.263mm) long and 76.7 inches (1,948mm) wide making it 6.4 inches (163mm) longer and 2.5 inches (64mm) wider than its predecessor. The wheelbase has also been stretched by 4.2 inches or 106.7mm at 124.8 inch (3,170mm) offering improved rear legroom.

Maserati reportedly claims that it has used more aluminum components in the chassis and on the body to reduce weight by up to 220 pounds, with the V6 model sporting an estimated curb weight of 4,101 pounds (1,860kg) and the V8, 4189 pounds (1,900kg).

Other notable facts about the 2013 model include the new Skyhook suspension with adjustable dampers and the use of a speed-sensitive hydraulic and not an electronic steering as is the case with most modern cars today.

I dont think its a facelift. They have dumped the heavy Chrysler chassis now and got it a striking ferrari engine. The reason it doesn't sell because not everyone is a Mafia. The porsche is just ugly but much faster. This is tooo heavy.

i totally agree to Theferrarifan's thoughts. Yes this is the more gorgeous than the Porsche Panamera but its subjective compared to the dashing Aston Martin Rapide.

Personally I am a maserati fan but the aston is stunning. But why would one pay 50,000 pounds more for that? Not VFM

Maserati looking to book 13,000 sales of new Quattroporte in 2013

Currently regarded as a low-volume boutique carmaker, Maserati sold just 6,159 units last year, and 4,700 units through three quarters of this year. For 2013, Fiat boss Sergio Marchionne is targeting 13,000 in sales of the redesigned Quattroporte alone. Fiat apparently wants the brand's low volume image to change, hoping to position it closer to BMW and Porsche in the market.
