Coolpad Note 3 Plus vs Xiaomi Redmi Note 3 vs Lenovo Vibe K5 Plus: Price, specifications, features compared

Coolpad today launched a new smartphone in India, called the Note 3 Plus. As the name suggests, it is a slightly upgraded variant of the Coolpad Note, and is priced at Rs 8,999. At this price point, the new smartphone will be up against the likes of the Xiaomi Redmi Note 3 and the Lenovo Vibe K5 Plus among others. To see how it fares against its closest rivals, we pit the three smartphones in a comparison in terms of their price, specifications and features.

Price: The new Coolpad Note 3 Plus is priced at Rs 8,999 and will go on sale via Amazon India from May 13 onwards. Lenovo’s Vibe K5 Plus however is the cheapest among the three with a price tag of Rs 8,499 whereas Xiaomi’s Redmi Note 3 is the most expensive with a price tag of Rs 9,999.

Specifications: All three smartphones offer full HD (1920×1080 pixels) resolution displays, which is bit rare for sub-Rs 10,000 segment. While the Note 3 Plus and the Redmi Note 3 feature a 5.5-inch screen, the Vibe K5 Plus comes with a 5-inch screen.

Under the hood, the Note 3 Plus features a MediaTek MT6753 64-bit octa-core, while the Redmi Note 3 and the Vibe K5 Plus feature Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 650 and Snapdragon 616 chipsets respectively. Only Coolpad’s smartphone boasts 3GB of RAM, as opposed to the 2GB of RAM on the other two smartphones.

It is a tie on the storage front with all three smartphones offering 16GB built-in memory. All three also have an option to add a microSD card to expand the memory.

On the photography front, Coolpad’s smartphone boasts a combination of 13-megapixel rear camera and 8-megapixel selfie camera. Xiaomi’s smartphone comes with a combination of 16-megapixel rear camera and 5-megapixel, and Lenovo’s smartphone is equipped with a 13-megapixel rear camera and 5-megapixel selfie camera. We can’t judge a camera’s performance by the megapixel count, and we will wait till we have reviewed the Coolpad Note 3 Plus before passing a judgment on which camera is the best.

With a 4,000mAh unit, Xiaomi’s Redmi Note 3 has the biggest battery in this comparison, followed by the Note 3 Plus’ 3,000mAh battery. Lenovo Vibe K5 Plus lags a behind a bit with a 2,750mAh battery.

Features: The Note 3 Plus and the Redmi Note 3 both have a fingerprint scanner placed at the back below the rear camera. Unfortunately, the Vibe K5 Plus misses out on this feature.

All three smartphones come with the usual bevy of connectivity options like dual-SIM card slots, 4G LTE support, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth. On the software front, all three run on Android Lollipop wrapped under their respective custom UIs.

Coolpad’s new Note 3 Plus has a clear advantage in terms of the price tag. It is Rs 1,000 cheaper than the Redmi Note 3, and Rs 2,000 cheaper than the variant with 32GB storage and 3GB of RAM. Though Rs 500 more expensive than the Lenovo Vibe K5 Plus, the Note 3 Plus has a few specs and features that are better.

Coolpad does seem to have a strong contender on its hands, but we will have to wait and see how it fares in the real world. Stay tuned for our review. A detailed comparison table follows.
