Micromax today launched its flagship Canvas 6 smartphone at an event where it also introduced a refresh to its brand identity. The Canvas 6 is priced at Rs 13,999 and will be available off the company’s own new e-store. At this price range, the new Canvas 6 will face off against the likes of the Xiaomi Redmi Note 3 and the Lenovo K4 Note among others. We compare the three smartphones on the basis of price, specifications and features, to see how they fare.
Price: The Canvas 6 is the most expensive of the three with a price tag of Rs 13,999. Both the Redmi Note 3 and the K4 Note, on the other hand, are priced at Rs 11,999 respectively. The Canvas 6 will be available on Micromax’s e-store, the Redmi Note 3 is available via flash sales on mi.com and Amazon India, while the K4 Note too is available on e-commerce sites.
Specifications: All the three smartphones flaunt a 5.5-inch display with a full HD (1920×1080 pixels) resolution. Under the hood, the Canvas 6 comes with a MediaTek Helio X10 octa-core processor, and the K4 Note a MediTek MT6753 64-bit octa-core processor. The Redmi Note 3, on the other hand, is powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 650 hexa-core chipset. All three processors are paired with 3GB of RAM each.
On the storage front, the Canvas 6 and the Redmi Note 3 offer 32GB internal storage, which can be further expanded using a microSD card. While the K4 Note too comes with a microSD card slot, there is only 16GB internal storage built-in.
As for photography, the Canvas 6 and the K4 Note both feature 13-megapixel snapper, while the Redmi Note 3 features a 16-megapixel snapper. On paper, Xiaomi’s smartphone may seem like it has an advantage, but we will reserve our judgment till we have reviewed the devices. All three smartphone cameras come with features like PDAF and dual-LED flash. The Canvas 6 has an 8-megapixel rear camera while the two others feature 5-megapixel selfie camera.
The Xiaomi Redmi Note 3 has the biggest battery out of the three — 4,050mAh. The other two lag behind quite a bit with the Canvas 6 featuring a 3,000mAh battery, and the K4 Note featuring a 3,300mAh battery.
Features: All three smartphones boast a fingerprint scanner that can not only unlock the device, but also adds an extra layer of security. On the software front, all three run on Android Lollipop wrapped under their respective UIs.
Micromax is also preloading the Around service platform on the Canvas 6, which is essentially the rebranded Around YU platform that was introduced on the YU Yutopia last year. The idea behind this services platform is to offer users various services on a single platform. In essence people looking for food will get options from the likes of Zomato, shopping deals from Scandid, travel deals from Ixigo, and cab options from the likes of Ola, Taxifor Sure, among others. The new smartphone also has Gaana as its default music player, and Udio as the native digital wallet.
The new Micromax Canvas 6 is closely matched with its immediate rivals as far as specifications and features are concerned. Though it is priced up to Rs 2,000 more than the Xiaomi Redmi Note 3 and the Lenovo K4 Note, it could come down in the coming weeks. Competition in this range is fierce with buyers also able to choose from the LeEco Le 1s, Motorola Moto G and the Honor 5X to name a few. A comparison table follows.
