As per many sources, these are myths.
Disconnect the charger when the battery is full or it will damage it
You need to let the battery drain completely before charging again
As the new batteries do not take charges once it reaches 100% (you can see the power indicator light goes of in some laptops once it reached 100% eg:- Vostro laptops), I do not think you need to unplug/switch off the power
On the other side, I have seen people complaining very bad battery backup & others claiming very good battery backup on same models. At times, I found the guys who connected the charger all the time were getting lesser backup than those guys who switches off once it reaches 100%. (I still follow that rule when ever possible as it does not hurt me in anyways).
I think some manufacturers say to store the batteries in 50% if we are not using it for while (eg:apple). Some say, you need to discharge the battery two three times to get the maximum battery backup.
Mobiles are initially kept on charge for 4-8 hrs before switching on. (It is again a myth for many. Some still practice that).
