Welcome to TheAutomotiveIndia.com,
Please do keep in the mind that how much you can actually spend for car and how much you can spend for monthly bills.
While Stretching budget seems to be a good option, but then you have to think if its really worth for you pay and you use that car to the full extent.
If your budget is around four lakhs, maximum you can stretch is up-to 5 lakhs keeping other factors in mind like fuel bills, accessories needed etc, etc,
I am planning to buy a new car. This will be my first car.Budget is around 4 L. |
1) decent fuel economy
2 )Decent space for 4 adults (2 elderly ones at back)
3) reasonable maintenance
4) Reasonable boot space
5) Decent resale value.
6)Having ABS and airbags for safety.
Since you mentioned that you take elders in your car, it's mandatory to choose between tall boy hatchbacks as they give easy ingress/egress, the chair-like sitting position will reduce fatigue in long journeys. The dept where you have sacrifice is the handling which will be visibly less than that of shorter hatches in speeds upto 100kmph Afaik
there's no new car in 4 lakh range which offers ABS
and Airbags and the entry level car with the needed features in only in Wagon R VXI (O) which shoots upto 5.21 lakhs OTR as per carwale website Instant Free New Car Price Quote - CarWale
Please suggest what other factors should I look while buying a new car. |
I will be using the car sometimes in weekdays and in weekends.
sometimes would go t highways in weekends for some weekend trips, say once in a month. other than that it will be driven in city.
What I suggest is since this is your first car, ABS
and Airbags though serves the safety purpose but your driving involves in the city most of times and sometimes weekend outings, so you are investing much of your money, the percentage of usage would be like 40% needed and other 60% is manageable.

I am a bit confused also whether to go for amt or manual.can you or someone else guide me on this?
The Amt is a hit among everybody now-a-days. However Amt is here to reduce the driver fatigue from pressing clutch and changing gears often in a crowded place and manual gears are performance oriented where many people (younger generation) prefer to have the desired power. While AMT also has gears without pressing clutch there is some kind of difference where in if you had to buy another car in future and it happens to be a manual one where then you will face discomfort, if you are retaining the current car for longer number of years say least of 5 years, then i'd suggest you buy the AMT model and might be in the near future we might have AMTs replacing manuals.
If it's manual I suggest you go for the Eon Magna or sportz model for good FE, decent boot space, good maintenance and better resale value, comes well within your budget , if performance is needed much more then you can select the Kappa version which is quite powerful.
and Airbags are mandatory, you have to select the Wagon-R itself which is around 5.30 lakhs. The Manual VXI wouls also prove you good as it is a feature rich.
If AMT is needed then Celerio and Alto k10 are the ones to go but those are quite uncomfortable for elders given in your parameter.
From this filter your option towards Eon or Wagon R VXI, its your call
