A prelude before the question -
We, a family of 4, own a TDi Indigo, in the LS version since April 2007. The car has run in excess of 1.5L kilometers till date, and is running fine as of today. Barring a few hundred, the rest are all driven by myself. An off topic but interesting thing about this car is, I have never sat in the back seat of this car while it was being driven!
Apart from the routine maintenance, the piston rings and turbo of this car have been changed. The work was done post the 1L mark, and the same can be attributed to the negligence on my part.
The Tata can run well for another 70-80000 kilometers for fine, but the proposed deregulation of diesel prices, and reduced driving has compelled us to look for a petrol sedan. Hence, I am in the market for an entry level sedan, employing a petrol engine.
My requirements are fairly simple -
1. Powerful and fuel efficient engine.
2. Spartan, but spacious interiors.
3. Back seat comfort over long drives.
4. Cheap and fuss free services over long term.
5. Reliability.
Based on my requirements, I knew that I had to walk to the showrooms of Toyota and Honda, as only these 2 brands provide for all 5 of my requirements in the Etios and Amaze. Hence I decided to visit the Toyota first.
We've a Toyota dealer in our city, who had also opened an ad campaign outlet in different parts of the city to promote the Etios Cross. They had also given ads in local newspapers quoting the prices. I casually went at the stall to know about the prices, fuel economy, exchange offers, etc. I asked him for the prices of base and mid variant petrol, and he explained to me the features. When asked for price, he quoted Re 6.97L for the base petrol. You're right, 6.97L for base petrol. Then I asked for F.E. and he said 23. After a short chat on the new legislation on ABS, Air bags, etc, I decided to leave. He asked for my contact details and I did not provide. How can the dealer or the ad persons provide such info?, I wondered.
I have not yet visited the Honda yet, will visit soon.
Now my head and heart both are in favor of this car, and I have mostly planned this one to buy. But, some people also suggested to give the Fiesta Classic a see. Question to TAI-gers here, how fuel efficient the Fiesta is? I am not the funky interiors type buyer, hence did not consider the Hyundai and Maruti. I don't feel that they are that rugged too.
Please suggest.
