I know that Paj Sport owners may jeer at me after reading this post(note: I have pushed this car more than even owners may have done), but I guess my reason for liking the Fortuner is valid. Especially for anyone who drives himself and drives a lot.
First of all, Fortuner 4X4 M/T costs around 27.5 here in Delhi, so 4X4 A/T may cost around 28.5.
In case they remove the low ratios(like most of the manufacturers do in 4X4 A/T's; no 1 crore SUVs here please) then you can expect it to fell near or equal to the 4X4 m/t itself. Maybe same is the story that the dealer told you; remove the low ratios(or maybe even 4X4) and price it lower than 4X4 M/T.
After experiencing both the cars enough, what I have experience is that 'except the ride quality and the mid range thrust that the 2.5l D-ID engine packs, Paj doesn't have much to offer that can beat the T-Fort'.
Fortuner has got an engine that pulls way better at slower speeds(say mumbai traffic) and this pull goes even better when you hit hilly roads. Oh, c'mon man.. you can't keep on pressing on gas to keep your car revving above 2000 rpm to get some serious performance.
There are other factors like A.S.S. etc, something where PS stands nowhere in front of Fort!
For a person whose car is going to spend most of its time on city roads, Fortuner is the one to go for -
IMO. Only if you can live with slightly bumpy suspension setup! But there is a remedy of this issue too; slightly higher speeds that what you carry normally and the tighter suspension setup do start absorbing the bumps quite well.
BTW is it only me or some more people feel that there is something wrong with the side profile of Paj sport?
Still, if you need a 4X4 for the work of a 'proper 4X4' then it is still the Paj! Rest let's wait and watch what these 4X4 boxes have on offer on t-Fort and PS!
