Re: Suggestions for new diesel hatchback !!

There are many hatchbacks to choose from and the car that ticks the requirements most is the Toyota Etios Liva. It falls in the 5-7 lakhs budget, it has loads of space and is comfortable. It has low maintenance, it is efficient and it can seat 5 in comfort and it is a Hatchback. Slighlty Boring Exteriors and Interiors are the only weak points. Apart from that this a very good car

Re: Suggestions for new diesel hatchback !!

The upcoming Tata Bolt would be great but if he needs this month itself, there are a few cars to choose from.
Maruti; Swift, Ritz, Dzire (base model): Good interiors and engines but not much space.
Chevrolet; Beat: Good city car and lots of equipment but very low car and not a good highway car. Sail: Spacious, nice ride and good engines but poor quality and ergonomics.
Tata Vista: Nice, comfortable and spacious interiors with good engine but dated exterior design.
Toyota Liva: Good ride quality and space but poor interior design and quality with lost of cost cuttings.
Nissan Micra and Renault Pulse: Good space and engines but heavy clutch and Nissan's service stations are limited.
VW Polo(Trendline): Fantastic quality and suspension but a bit higher costs and not as spacious as Vista.
Hyundai Grand i10: Good space, great equipment and quality but engine, handling, ride not as good as Swift or Vista on highways.
Ford Figo: Good space and handling but old.

Re: Suggestions for new diesel hatchback !!

Wondering why nobody is suggesting Punto [roll]
It is such a nice car, solid build, proven engine, decent FE, great ride and handling, superb ground clearance. Also there are mouthwatering offers from Fiat.
Downside is rear seats are not spacious as Liva / Vista.
People do often speak about the poor A.S.S and high spares cost, but how many of them actually experienced it?

And the other set of people complaining about the service network (no. of service stations in the city / near by) couldn't understand how many days in a year we are spending in service centres. 3/4/5 times a year? take it 10 days in a year. Do you worry about those 10 days of additional effort rather than the rest 355 days of pleasure from a good vehicle?

From my own experience there is nothing much to complain about Punto. It is one of the most underrated car in India.

I will suggest you to have a look at new Ford Figo 2014 features. It has enhanced features and matches all your requirements with the exception of their aftersales services. The car also has top ranking in comparison tests done by popular magazines with other cars.

Figo is a good choice and it ticks the requirements. It is getting replaced with new model later this year, so that's one thing that should be kept in mind.
The only concern is the rear seat isn't as wide as Liva which measures 138cm compared to Figo's 131cm. That extra 7cm gives more room for 5th person.

Regarding the Service Cost, Ford cars aren't expensive to maintain and service. Gone are those days when Escort, Ikon, Mondeo, Old Fiesta were costly in terms of ASS. New Cars like Figo, New Fiesta, Ecosport are very pocket friendly. Recently, my cousin brother had given his Ecosport for 1st Paid service and it was just Rs.1700. Compare that to what i paid for sister's Wagon R which was shockingly Rs.6900 for its 1st Paid Service, the difference is huge.

shocking to here that
wagon R a petrol and that too maruthi suzuki product costs that much, may be your sister ordered some spares or accessories or took some 3m product coatings or non warranty claimable user damaged parts replacement

how come a lower cost petrol car service costs higher than a higher priced diffent segment diesel car [confused]

Nope, Nothing apart from servicing things like oil change, wheel balancing, etc. I gave the car for service. The only thing that was replaced were Wiper Blades, apart from that nothing else. Even now i cannot believe how costly the service is. That WagonR might be the last Maruti Product for us. I am waiting for new Jazz, i20 as replacement for it.

Wiper blade replacement, is it gone bad before 1st service itself (sounds odd) after how many kms we need to give wagon r for first service ?
and what was the cost of wiper blades ?

may be dealer try to loot you

Wagon R has 3 free service, Then paid one's. Its every 5000 km. And i gave it when it had reached 15000. Before i gave it, i had asked for estimate. They told that along with engine oil, gear oil must also be replaced. I asked how come gear oil is to be replaced, he said Maruti has asked its service centers to replace gear oil post 15k kms. I told him that my Brio, Rapid don't require Gear Oil change at all. Regarding Wiper Blades, they are really of poor quality. They wouldn't wipe the windshield fully. Cheap Spares = Cheap Quality.

Wait for a month and New Punto is getting launched and then ask your BIL to choose a car.

I am also planning for FIGO but one thing holding me back is resale value once new model is launched. However when I checked with Harpreet ford, as per them Ford will launch fiesta first that too in 2015 Quarter end (march end) . Figo would be the next but need to wait for at-least an year. Not sure how true they are.
