Buying a factory fitted CNG car in Mumbai makes practical / economical sense as there is no issue with supply of CNG here, Some bunks offer separate queue for private owners hence waiting time for filling is reduced, on an average 200km range on each tank fill seems sufficient in case if you have 30kms of daily drive to & fro that demand for refill only on weekends, performance on CNG mode in factory fitted cars like Ertiga, Wagon-R, Celerio is almost at par to petrol mode in city driving. For spirited driving on highways, you always have the petrol option open with you.
Nowadays even CNG infrastructure in pune area is improving that give us an additional range for drive on NH4 in CNG mode. CNG is widely available in Gujarat starting from Ankleshwar till Rajkot. In future we will see more CNG pipeline network covering various parts in India. This shows for a promising future for CNG cars in India.
I only expect, other than MSIL & up to a very minimum extent Hyundai (Santro only), no other manufacturer is providing factory fitted CNG cars. There is a huge untapped potential for CNG vehicles in India.
One more aspect I am personally not happy about is non availability of safety features like ABS
, Airbags on factory fitted CNG cars. None of the vehicles presently sold in India have those features, even not as an option. Is it that difficult to provide these safety features for these vehicles? Is it technically not possible?
