Given your budget and the set of requirements - Will suggest you to look out these few cars and see which one suits the best.
1. Swift ZDI - One of the most reliable cars around. Surely not one of the most solidly built cars but sure you do get the basic safety equipment like the ABS
and front Airbags. Peppy engine and driveability is pretty good too.
2. VW Polo TDI Highline - Solidly put together car. Each screw is fit perfectly where it needs to be. 1.2TDI engine feels under-powered though. Reliability is a concern and VW's A.S.S is also not in comparison with the likes of Maruti or Hyundai.
3. Hyundai i20 Asta diesel - Its the most spacious among the three. Bigger engine and comes with ABS
and front Airbags but loses out on the solidity aspect. Doors and metal sheet feel wafer thin, not at all confidence inspiring and the no-response steering adds to the misery at high speeds.
4. Fiat Punto Emotion diesel - My personal opinion, this feels the most safest car to be in among the rest I've mentioned. Have driven it at some insane speeds and it never loses its composure. Doors are super heavy and the metal sheet used is also very confidence inspiring. Reliability of the car is fairly decent, though the after sales of Fiat are still very tricky and the car is not doing any great sale figures either. But the bright side is you can get some great discounts on it.
Test drive all the above mentioned cars and see which you feel the most comfortable in. Swift ZDI should make the most practical buy IMO
