Hey, so you see that everyone absolutely HATES
Matiz. Well if you are Looking to drive more with-in the city than on highways (80:20), if you want peace of mind (Maintenance, Spares and Tata's A.S.S ), If you want a newer model, If you can bare with less engine Power (200cc Less), Noise and Refinement is also high and the Steering is a tad hard to maneuver (Gets worse while Parking or driving at slow speeds), Then go for NANO.
And yes your are Right, Matiz is way more spacious than Alto , M800, Zen, Nano (Obviously) and has the biggest boot space of all compared. It is safer than all the Above and has A/C + Heater. Yes, It also has a Bonnet
. But I don't Know about the Alternator Upgrade. You are in Bangalore and the spares are AVAILABLE for Matiz in Bangalore (Trust Me! I've Been There). Matiz can be modded too ( But has very limited aftermarket parts. Only K&N and Free flow without Headers, mufflers available.). Though Matiz had some flaws like from changing from 1st to 2nd gear ( Pre-2001 Models had this problem). It requires a lot of practice. After Buying it,
My Recommendations :
Matiz - The BIG Small Car that was Light years ahead of Nano,Santro,M800,Alto and Zen (Not Indica) which never failed as a car itself but the failure of the company Daewoo made this car to be somewhat of a failure.
Things to do after Buying ( Do it Step-by-Step)
NOTE- This can be considered as a small restoration, please post pictures before, On and after restoration, before doing bodywork, ensure everything (Full Engine, Transmission, Brake Pads, Caliper, Pads , Suspension, Fuel Tank, Filter and Pump etc) is removed so that Paint does not get sprayed on the parts unknowingly and also checking problems, replacing Fluids in all parts.
1) Exterior 15-30K (Depends on the Condition)- Denting, Rust removal, New paint job, 3M underbody coating 4K, Some logos and monograms 1K. Car will Look like brand new and will turn heads
2) Engine - 20K Do a complete component flush (Engine,Transmission oil,Brake Fluid,Power Steering Oil,Coolant,Fuel Tank,Pump,Filters) and put fully synthetic oil for Engine 5w 30 and Transmission 75W 90 and put new fluid for others, De-Carbonize the components, check timing belt, Water pump and alternator. Replace ALL the filters (Air and Oil Filter to K&N), Bosch Platinum +4 Spark, Engine Tuning (Compression test,Ignition Timing etc)
3) Alloy Wheels and New Tires (Tubeless) 25K MAX - Yokohama A-Drive 155/70/R 13 Tubeless Tires and a 13'' Alloy Wheels (Hard to Find). Tubeless tires will prove troublesome in steel rims.
After Doing this, you will have some more knowledge about restorations on your own Matiz itself and moreover, You will have a head turning, running like new Daewoo Matiz which will give more than 20KMPL on Highways without A/C for just 75K.
