The season cycle has now turned. Gone are the chilly winters when even the afternoon drives felt pleasing. Sun god is ready to let loose its command. The temperatures will soar high, and the street roads would lie dead.
However, be it soaring petrol prices or high temperatures, nothing stops Petrolheads from going on drives.
So here we are to give some quick tips to formulate your ride a trouble free one this summer.

  • Check the fluids under the hood
Fluids.JPG
A servicing before summer is highly recommeded. Schedule a trip to the nearest service centre before it turns too hot. During summers, the temperatures are already high which adds to the degrees of the engine while it is still running. Hence additional lubrication is requisite which is why the engine oil levels must be kept in check. Albeit the oil levels have been inspected once, make sure to examine them before going out for a long drive. Do top up the oil if required.

Coolant.JPG
Make certain the coolant levels are appropriate. Technically known as heat transfer fluid, the coolant has the basic job of keeping the temperatures of engine down. Lower levels of coolant may be hazardous for your engine. Less coolant may lead to extreme temperatures inside the engine block which may lead to stalling of engine or in worst cases Seizure.

  • Tyre pressure

Check your tires to make sure they can withstand high temperatures. Ensure that the tyre pressure is maintained as per the recommendations by manufacturer. Additionally it must be taken care that the pressure check is done while the tires are in cold state. Preferably fill in the air during morning hours when the car has not been much. To make sure what’s correct pressure for your tyres, check out the list found on the side of the driver’s door.

  • Parking space
Parking problem is a big issue these days, but the problem intensifies during summer when everybody wishes to park under some shade, be it a tree or shadow of a building. Parking your car under direct sunlight not only poses the issue of excessive heating of cabin, but also leads to fading of the body color. The cars which are normally parked under diresct sunlight tend to fade and loose lustre. Always try to park your car under some shade.

  • Avoid leaving electronics inside the car
Inspite of taking all the measure the cabin temperature cant be controlled which is why all the items which may get affected by heat should be removed before parking the car in such conditions. Make sure to remove all the electronic items such as Cameras, mobile phones etc which may get damaged due to excessive heat inside the cabin.

  • Refueling

One can save a few bucks by following some simple fueling tips, one of which is the time. It is preferable to fil in the fuel during the evenings or mornings during the hot season. The reason being Lower fuel temperature during evening = higher density, which results in more fuel for the same buck.

  • Engine Temperature
Temp.JPG
The engine temperatures must be inspected more often during continued drives. Make sure to keep a check on the temperature gauge found on the instrument cluster to make sure the temperatures are under control. If they seem to be high, make sure to interrupt your joruney by making a quick stop to a place where the coolant levels can be inspected. Even if everything seems fine, do let your car rest and allow yourself some refreshments.

  • AC Checkup
AC.JPG
Last but not the least, the only weapon for you to fight against the killing heat is the Air con. Hence to make sure this weapon doesn’t let you down, do get the AC check up done before summer so as to ensure proper cooling. The check up include Gas/refrigerant, compressor and blower inspection.

  • Wiper Blades

The summers is the season of unexpected winds and showers. Hence do inspect the wiper blades for any wear and tear aand replace if required. Faulty baldes may lead to uneven cleaning and scratches on windshield.

  • Perfumes

Summer season is directly proportional to sweat. Hence to ensure no foul smell creeps into your cabin, the perfume is a must for every car. Theres a wide range of perfumes available in the market. Choose the one which appeases you.

In addition to the car care tips, we would to add a few points which will help you keep the cabin a bit cooler than usual when the car has been in sun for a few hours.

  • As mentioned in one of the above points, try to park your car under some shade, however even if the same is done, the temperature inside the car may increase rapidly due to the heat trapping property of glass. To reduce this effect, the windows can be rolled down to an inch so as to allow the excessive heat to creep out. However make sure you follow this practice whenever the car is parked in a safe location like your home parking.

  • For quick cooling of cabin, as soon as you enter your car after a prolonged parking under the sun, make sure to roll down the windows a bit and put the blower speed to full keeping the AC on. As soon as the hotness of the cabin is down, roll up the windows and put the AC into re-circulation mode.

By following these quick tips you can make sure the high temperatures of summer do not roast up the spirit of your journey. Have a wonderful summer. Drive Safe.

That's a useful article, Akash. The points highlighted here are must-do's for any car owner if they wish their ride to stay healthy enough in summers because the rising temperature usually spoils all the driving fun but thankfully, an effective set of tints and quick check-up of A/C along with other mechanical could easily prevent from happening so.

Nice write up Akash. I am sure all of us are aware of few of these points and if we practice these this summer would be more comfortable to drive.
Thanks you all.
The mentioned tips are almost well known to all, but we compiled it into a report by explaining the points in brief with illustrations.

Thanks typer, Me too face similar issue. The leather seats tend to absorb more heat. But the Ac trick does help a lot
