Many of us participated in this thread (http://www.theautomotiveindia.com/forums/indian-auto-scene/1576-owning-car-necessity-luxury.html) where I questioned whether cars are just a luxury and some show off or a necessity and a part of our life. Like expected, the second option grabbed most votes and one of the common comment was that a car is nowadays a mix of both, where you always have an option to stretch on high-end model depending upon the size of your wallet. But ever thought, what if you can buy your favorite car under strictly packed budget, which looks as good as a new car and will definitely help to boost your status in society. It could be useful especially if you’re a senior executive of a growing firm and need to maintain your status to a level which of course reflects from the car you drive. The Automotive India points you towards a few such special cars which one or another surely lusts for. Let’s check ‘em out!

1. Mitsubishi Lancer Cedia

mitsubishi-lancer-cedia-sports.jpg

Cedia has always been my all time favorite car. However, It is too rare to find in used car market but if by chance you discover one, then don't miss the opportunity because it's not-so-good re-sale value could be an advantage for you.

ford-mondeo.jpg

Great Looks, Performance, Luxury, What was not there in Mondeo? Answer is the over-priced tag and spare parts cost by Ford India which kept away the buyers from this enthusiastic car, as a result it has been discontinued from our market but still we hope that after learning from their mistakes, Ford will re-launch Mondeo back with a bang. Like the Cedia, Mondeo is too a rare sight in used car bazaar and holds poor re-sale value but a good deal can pay you off, Given that you can Pay-off its Maintenance costs first!

Story of Chevy's old war horse called forester is just a little different than of mondeo sedan and that difference includes that this car wasn't so overpriced, yet it wasn't accepted either in our market. The civic is one of a best used car in its segment which money can purchase. The all around futuristic looks from inside and out, you can only realize if you have personally experienced. One of a fantastic car from Skoda Auto. Laura is built to live till last however there are some niggles but over all it is a really luxurious car and mind you that the boon in terms of comfort can eventually turn into bane if you take any mehcanical issues lightly, as the spare parts costs are higher than you expect.

Endeavor comes with a solid built and truck like dimensions which can easily shoo away any car in front of you on roads. For those entrepreneurs who have settled their industries on dusty outskirts of city where a sedan has nothing to do, Look out for the Endeavor. 11. Skoda Superb

skoda-superb.jpg

Simply Superb. As rightly said by Skoda Auto. Superb is a no nonsense luxury saloon and it's latest version is actually a palace on wheels but everything comes at a cost, If you are a passionate driver consider a couple of years old V6 variant which will cost approx. Rs. 6-7 Lakhs less.

The car which truly satisfies the title of this topic is none other than the range from three pointed star. Everyone desires to own a Merc atleast once in their lifetime but gone are those days when Merc said "Only a few will enjoy the right of way" in their advertisements, because now you can be a proud owner of a Pre-owned Mercedes C-Class as low as cost of a new Honda City. I believe even Ford's Ikon is great buy as used car.

Advantages - Great steering feel and ride quality. Not sure about pricing, but shouldn't be more than 3L.

Disadvantage - Spares are costly.

@ RSM: i think here we are talking about much more expensive cars which can be had under 10 lakhs, if bought second hand.

IMHO, a ikon wont 'Boost your Status'!

my pick is the accord.

Hey 350Z great thread!! Out of the list i prefer Cedia , Civic and Laura because these are the cars i too considered even for my purchase!! Apart from that these cars will be almost like new state and would not have been used much so would be more reliable and will not give troubles in maintenance for some years!!

Rest all the cars are very difficult to get one in this price range , very rare! Either they must have been extensively used or must have suffered from an accident!! SO again maintenance might get tougher!!

So i stick with the 3 cars of my choice!!

And apart from this cant Lancer be added to the list , it was also once a status symbol car!!

I completely missed the new comments, anyways. Thanks cooldhaya! I’d agree with you on Lancer Cedia part, Like mentioned in review that it’s one of my all time favorite car, be it any variant, though the spirit was somewhat plain in comparison to rivals or even its own sports sibling but still this car remains my choice. After the cedia, The cars in my preffered category are Honda Civic, Hyundai Sonata, Merc C-Class. One could even afford a few years old E-Class in fairly good condition for Rs.20 Lakhs which doesn't sounds bad deal either.
