Is it 1500cc or smaller? Does it feel underpowered since it delivers so high FE? Also how much more the MID displays compared to actual FE?
Fiesta is the most underrated car in its segment when existed in showrooms. The rear seat legroom is the sore-point for people to give it a miss. Hey, for nuclear families I think it is easy to accommodate kids at the rear and I wouldn't mind using another car to make 5 people travel comfortably for the odd times when needed. My rear bench was rarely occupied in the 29000 kms I have driven yet. Even if the rear is cramped, it makes up with its fantastic ride and handling and the people sitting at the rear would never complain.
Coming to the point, its a 1500 cc engine delivering just 90 PS and 205 Nm torque between 2000-2750 rpm. The Mid range is quite strong and the car pulls effortlessly from 1200rpm with zero turbo lag and the acceleration from 60-100 kmph is an absolute joy. The top end performance may not be good but this car can hold its own till 140 kmph with any car in the segment. The amazing fuel efficiency is because of twin factors - a strong mid range aided by precise steering that allows you to accelerate faster than other cars and fabulous handling that just allows to keep moving on the road without getting stuck behind in traffic and thus less gear shifts. The precise steering is something I have not experienced in any cars driven yet. I rarely push the needle past 100 kmph during my daily business trips, yet I see it a rarity that other cars overtake me. The actual FE would be 90-95% of MID figure.
Of the 4 cars I own presently - Santro, Vento TSi, Duster AWD and Fiesta, this car gives me the maximum FE, least maintenance, maximum joy to drive and of course, our family's favorite for weekend getaways.
