Why would they do that to me? In fact I found the FE and DTE given by VW way more accurate than the good for nothing instantaneous type display given by Maruti and Honda. On my Polo D; the FE display always hovers between 16 and 22 kpl per trip and I get around 17.5-18.5 kpl every time on every full tank. In fact once it displayed 19.xx kpl on a 600 kms long highway trip and I got 19.01 by tankful method too. After driving the Polo petrol for sometime; my conclusion is:
1) A strong low end and mid range helps you keep driving in higher gear (IMO
it has the best low end and mid range in its segment)
2) Painfully tall fifth gear helps gain FE
3) Coasting really helps, can easily raise the FE by 1-2 kpl on highways
I could drive between 70-90 and that's my speed honestly. But 50% A/C is what I couldn't understand. The moment I rolled down my window, my face starts feel like burning from all the dust particles and seriously, at that speed, my ears tend to have tears at one point or another!!
Sirji it's winters up here and A/C is switched ON either for removing the mist or only for maybe 15-20 minutes when the cabin becomes hot. I don't open the windows but keep switching the A/C ON and OFF at some intervals. In fact I guess it's hardly for 20-25% of the journey that the compressor actually works else it's OFF.
If that true, then it's nice FE and hope you aren't sided with VW and not cheating us!
Yups, VW promised me a Polo GTi if I drag you to their dealership and make you buy a GT TSi as you are in lookout for automatic hatch. Oh $#it; secret revealed!!

No doubt, people have reported even 19-20 kpl on Swift petrol on full highway drives and that also from tankful-tankful method.
