Hey Friends,

I read in one of the posts here in this forum that the usage of Cruise Control during the Running-in period is bad for the engine.
How true is this statement?

I have never come across such a mandate anywhere else and I took delivery of an XUV500 W8 a week back and have already used CC, for short distance though.
My SA never told me to keep away from using CC in the running-in period.
Just wanted to know the truth about this.
Can anyone please tell me the technical explanation for this, if it is true?

Thanks,
Arvind S.

A typical run in period guide is as follows:
The future performance and reliability
of the engine depends on the care
and restraint exercised during its early
life. It is especially important to
observe the following precautions
during the initial 960 km (600 miles)
of vehicle operation.
• After starting, do not race the
engine. Warm it up gradually.
• Avoid prolonged vehicle operation at
a constant speed(This is what cruise control does hence you have been asked to stay away from using it). Moving parts will
break in better if you vary your
speed.
• Start off from a stop slowly. Avoid
full throttle starts.
• Avoid hard braking, especially during
the first 320 km (200 miles) of
driving.
• Do not drive slowly with the transmission
in a high gear.
• Drive the vehicle at moderate engine
speeds.
• Do not tow a trailer during the first
960 km (600 miles) of vehicle operation.

Although it is said that modern engines come pre-run in and hence does not require an additional run in period.

However, for your own satisfaction, be gentle till 1000 kms and avoid the cruise control for reasons mentioned in previous post.
