Hi All,
This is about my colleague's Palio Stile 1.1 Petrol version which he acquired last year. The car had done 27000kms and still running on the stock Good year 165/80-R13. As the stock tyre has developed bubbles and needed immediate replacement, the hunt started. After a few visits to a couple of tyre shops and we got to know that we are not going to find a 165/80-R13 locally and then looked for online sources. It was surprising that the price of this particular size alone is comparable to a 175 or 185 profile tyre. And thinking of a long term solution we decided on a rim upsize.
Ordered a set of 4 nos - 14" rims + wheel caps of Fiat Punto from 99rpm.com, 165/70-R14 from snapdeal.com, tubeless tyre valve set from ebay.in. This was all in the last week of December. 99rpm was closed till new year and we had been waiting or the rims for about 10 days. The rest of the stuff had reached us already. Finally the rims & wheel caps arrived on 8th Jan. We were all excited to proceed with fitment.
On 10th we set out to a nearby tyre & wheel alignment shop and got the fitment done. Took a test drive and felt a difference in the noise levels and above all no more wobbling on the steering wheel. Just for info, the Punto rims are 5.5x14" rims with ET-41. After fitment, the wheel track didn't appear to have changed. So I presume the Palio wheel also came with a similar offset value.
Everything went well except that the alignment guy revealed that one of the tie-rod ends is jammed and hence toe-in could be adjusted on only 1 side. Replacing the tie-rod will be addressed soon.

Smell of Petrol and a cracked Fuel Filter

Since a few weeks a string smell of fuel was observed inside the cabin while driving. And drops of fuel on the floor right below the fuel tank was noticed at the parking lot. We were clueless as from where the fuel was leaking.

Finally the car was taken to a mechanic who parked the car in his ramp and opened up the fuel tank shield. There was lot of petrol around the pipes and the fuel filter. Upon key on the filter sprayed a mist of fuel through a crack developed at the joint. The filter was replaced and peace of mind restored.
