Update - Tyres changed to Apollo Aceleres with OE specs. Being so confused between Apollo Acelere & Michelin XM2, spoke to few of my friends who are using Apollo in Figo and other cars and was well convinced. Though XM2 are the best, I still was ambivalent on their capability to manage bad to worst roads. Moreover, since I had enough with my present (now past) tyres, I didn't want to take any further headaches, even with paying nearly 1K more than the other.
Hence, decided with Apollo and spoke to almost all big tyre shops in Bangalore for quotes. Most of them quoted 4,100 to 4,300 for Acelere and 4,700 to 5,000 for XM2, including Reliance Autozone which quoted 4,150 and 5,000 respectively to my surprise
. There seems to be only one Authorized Dealer of Apollo (Apollo Zone - Franchise) for entire Karnataka and that's Super Tyre World in JC Road. Spoke to Mr. Santosh, who sounded pretty professional and quoted 3,700 for Acellere and 4,650 for XM2, with Fitment, Wheel Alignment & Balancing. That was found to be the best buy, so headed to there last Saturday.
Never thought JC Road would be this congested... Thanks to Google Maps Navigation which made me to land on the wrong side of the road showing that as the destination, whereas it's on the other side of the road and it's a one way. There, couple of guys approached me offering service, which I politely denied saying I am here for Super Tyre World. Then they said, they can buy my all 4 old ones for 1K. I was shocked as I wasn't expecting even 500 for all four. Remember, each tyre has at least 3 - 4 punctures, Mushroom Patches etc. While I was explaining those guys to first see the tyres and decide, one guy handed 100 bucks to me and said, I will take it, keep this as advance.
Somehow, after taking circles, reached the Tyre Shop (which was just opposite to where we were...) and met Mr. Santosh. He explained me clearly on the Pros & Cons of XM2, which was quite similar to the information I already gathered and suggested me to go with Apollo.
The shop looked quite busy as there were already 4 cars lined up. But luckily I was queued in with in 10 mins and the guys were already on the job. Checked the tyres and they were all made during 48/12, so not to be worried on the age. Asked them to keep the best of the old ones for Spare and give off the other 4 to those guys.
Guys on the job were pretty skillful and quick. Tyre change, Balancing and fitting were done and getting fitted back. About the Neck, he suggested to go with Steel ones of Bridgestone, which looked good. The normal ones were for 65 bucks and BS and other of Ford were 150 Rs. I picked up of BS as it looked attractive.
Once it all done, I asked for Wheel Alignment which he said 350 extra. I was surprised and recalled our discussion over phone. He thought for a while and said, he would have quoted by mistake, but will do it if the cars are cleared and the guys are free. For my luck all got free when my car was ready, so did the Wheel Alignment too.
Finally, for payment he said 2% extra for Card Payment, which I negotiated to 1.5%. So total, Rs. 15,700 (4 Tyres @ 3,700 + 600 for Necks & 100 for Led Weights).
Feedback about the Shop: Good place, skillful and knowledgeable but pretty congested. Try negotiating for best rates, works well.
Feedback about the Tyres: Just drove for few KMs and will get the real idea after the initial run in. Initial observations are, Improvised comfort and handling, Pretty Silent (Super Silent compared to MRFs
) and VFM
